ATTC visits Kontron Transportation – A Glimpse into the Future of Mission-Critical Communication Systems
As part of an engaging information evening in June, the Austrian Traffic Telematics Cluster (ATTC) had the pleasure of visiting Kontron Transportation at its Vienna location.
Kontron Transportation, a long-standing expert in mission-critical communication solutions, provided us with exclusive insights into its extensive technology portfolio. The spotlight was on current and future systems for rail transport, public transit, and intelligent tolling and traffic management solutions. Particularly noteworthy were the presentations by Managing Director Richard Neussl and technical experts Reinhard Steiner-Krause and Karel Feix, who illustrated the vital role that reliable communication plays in ensuring safe and efficient mobility – every day, for millions of people.
A central topic of the evening was the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) – the upcoming international standard set to replace GSM-R in the railway sector. In this context, we were also introduced to FRED – Kontron Transportation’s engaging virtual avatar, who offers an entertaining yet informative introduction to the world of FRMCS and reflects the company’s commitment to technological leadership.
Beyond rail systems, innovative solutions for public transport were also presented – including advancements in electronic ticketing and validation systems designed to make mobility easier and more efficient for passengers. In the area of tolling technology, smart approaches to traffic management were showcased, highlighting their potential to make infrastructure more sustainable and intelligent.
The evening not only offered fascinating insights but also numerous opportunities for personal exchange and networking among industry professionals. We extend our sincere thanks to Kontron Transportation for their hospitality, open dialogue, and the inspiring look into the world of mission-critical communication systems.
We look forward to further close collaboration – because together, we are shaping the digital mobility of tomorrow.
