C-ITS traffic solutions in the motorway maintenance depot

On 18 October 2022, the members of the Austrian Traffic Telematics Cluster presented the future state of the art for the ITS traffic solutions of tomorrow. The ATTC invited experts from research & development, operators and public administration to the ASFINAG site in Kaisermühlen. The special guest of honour was MSc. Gerhard Menzel, head of the BMK staff unit for intelligent transport systems & digital transformation, was welcomed as a special guest of honour. This event impressively demonstrated that Austria is clearly at the forefront of the international ITS sector!

ATTC President and ASFINAG CEO Dr Josef Fiala: “For more than 15 years, we at ASFINAG have dedicated ourselves to the topic of C-ITS, and with great success. Cooperative intelligent transport systems are the pioneers of future and networked mobility, and it is therefore important for us as a modern mobility provider to research and ultimately provide visionary solutions for even greater road safety. With our successes in the field of C-ITS, we are setting a milestone in Europe and we are focussing on the next stage in intelligent traffic management and thus on the subsequent technologies in automated driving.” ASFINAG is the first road operator in the world to use C-ITS technology (also known as Car2X or V2X) and allows the motorway to talk intelligently to the latest vehicles.

C-ITS stands for cooperative intelligent transport systems and is a pioneer of modern and networked mobility between road, rail, public transport and vehicles. With the help of C-ITS, the infrastructure and vehicles can immediately warn each other of local danger spots, bring up-to-date information directly to the vehicles, adapt the traffic flow via intelligent traffic lights or give priority to emergency vehicles on emergency journeys.

The ATTC is very pleased about this highly professional exchange in the character of an autumn trade fair!
